All fallen timber and dead trees are retained to provide habitat for reptiles. Having a resident herpetologist in the village has been a great asset in identifying the 10 different species of snakes, 19 lizard and gecko species and 8 frog species that I have been able to spot and get a good enough look at in my travels.  My interest in small and scaly critters and skills in identification have increased enormously thanks to the generous and enthusiastic assistance of Alex Dudley.
